Influence of the Pilot Flame on the Morphology and Exhaust Emissions of NH3-CH4-Air Swirl Flames Using a Reduced-Scale Burner at Atmospheric Pressure

This work presents an experimental study on the influence of pilot flame characteristics morphology and exhaust emissions a turbulent swirling flame. A reduced-scale burner, inspired by that fitted in AE-T100 micro gas turbine, was employed as platform to evaluate methane (CH4) ammonia-methane fuel blend with ammonia (NH3) volume fraction 0.7. The power ratio (PR) between main composition investigated. varied from 0 20% for both compositions tested. NH3 ranged pure CH4 through various NH3–CH4 blends. Flame images emissions, namely CO2, CO, NO, N2O were recorded. It found increasing produces more stable flames influences most measured. CO2 concentration gases roughly constant CH4-air or NH3–CH4–air flames. In addition, reduction about 45% achieved XNH3 = 0.70 compared CH4, while still producing long PR ? 5%. have higher relative impact NO than NH3–CH4, measured percentage increments 276% 11%, respectively. all ratios but it decreased when increased NH3–CH4. highly affected emissions.
